One thing always happens when Bedford plays a hockey game at the Chelsea Coliseum.  It doesn’t matter if the opponent is Chelsea or another team in the MHSAA playoffs. Over the last decade it’s been loss after loss after loss.  But that all changed in the Mules’ first appearance in the Michigan Public High School Showcase.  A pair of third period rallies led to a 5-3 win over Lapeer and an 8-5 decision over Clarkston, ending the drought.

Five different players tallied for Bedford in the Lapeer game.  Jake Stark, assisted by David Jeffers, scored the opening goal late in the first period.  That was followed by a Bob Bobroski goal, assisted by Jacob Schultz and Ian Andres, to give the Mules a 2-0 lead at the break.  Lapeer countered with a pair of second period goals, making it a 2-2 game heading into the break.

Jeffers put Bedford ahead early in the third period, assisted by Joseph Staszek, but Lapeer tied it again three minutes later.  With 9:28 remaining, Andres scored the game winning goal, assisted by Bobroski and Schulty.  Then Schulty added an insurance goal with two minutes remaining to secure the victory.

In their second Showcase contest, the Mules faced a Clarkston team that was reduced to ten players due to final exam conflicts.  Halfway through the game the Wolves had built a 4-2 lead, but then Bedford scored six unanswered goals to turn the game around.

After spotting Clarkston an early goal, Bedford took a 2-1 lead by the end of the first period on goals by Bobroski, assisted by Dale Davis and Andres, and Davis on the power play, assisted by Jeffers and Matt Dulbs.  The Wolves pumped in three goals in the first seven minutes of the second period.  And then things changed.

Ethan Aubry scored four seconds into a power play and it was 4-3.  Andres tied the game with five minutes left in the period.  Aubry put the Mules ahead, assisted by Jake Stark and Jeffers, going into the second intermission.

The eventual game winning goal again came from Andres, assisted by Dulbs, with just under nine minutes remaining.  Jeffers added a power play goal, assisted by Stark and Davis, then Davis gave Bedford a comfortable four goal lead, assisted by Bobroski and Andres.  Clarkston scored the final goal of the game.
