Bedford drew the strongest team in the opening round of the SMCC Tournament in Monroe. Big Rapids dominated play with a 37-18 advantage in shots on goal and emerged with a 4-0 victory. Two of the Cardinals’ goals came while Bedford was on the power play.

Big Rapids scored in every period, doubling up in the second. Ethan Moore turned back 13 shots in the first period for the Mules, and 10 in each of the other two. But those two short-handed goals by the speedy penalty killers turned momentum away from Bedford.
