Mules slip past Gibraltar Carlson

Game Date
Jan 9, 2016
Score
MULES: 3
GIBRALTAR CARLSON: 2

This game might as well have been called Bedford’s Captains’ Night in the Mules’ only January home game at the Ice House.  Co-captains Ian Andres scored twice and Jake Stark once in an exciting 3-2 victory over Gibraltar-Carlson.  Andres also picked up an assist on the Stark goal.

The Marauders, who came into the game sporting an 8-3 record, opened the scoring in the fourth minute and had the Mules on their heels.  But with 4:05 left in the first period and both teams short one player due to penalties, Andres sniped the puck past the Carlson goalkeeper to tie it up, assisted by Dale Davis and Joseph Staszek.

At 6:48 of the second period, Stark put the Mules ahead towards the end of a power play, assisted by Andres and Bob Bobroski.  What turned out to be the winning goal came from Andres, assisted by Bobroski, with just under three minutes left in that period, and again with both teams short by one player due to penalties.

There was no scoring in the nail-biting third period which included two Bedford penalty kills.  Bedford outshot Carlson by a 28-25 count, with Noah Smalley picking up the win in goal.  The two teams will square off again in three weeks, and then meet for a third time in the opening round of the MHSAA playoffs on March 1.
