Bedford and Saline played a tight game for the first half of the first period before the Hornets broke through from a player pile-up in front of the Bedford goal. Three minutes later Saline added a power play goal, then the hosts added a pair of late scores to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission. The Hornets lost their starting goalkeeper 22 seconds before the break when he was ejected following a disturbance that resulted in nine penalties.
The teams settled down for the remainder of the game, with Saline adding a late second period goal, a late third period goal, and an empty netter for the 7-0 final. The Mules couldn’t take advantage of the third string Saline goalkeeper’s inexperience, as the only faced six shots over the last two periods. The Hornets dominated the offense, with an overall 67-11 advantage.
